Change for Change raised $8,000 for Rebuilding Together and UC Green (Spring 2002) |
Change for Change Penn worked spring semester to support Rebuilding Together, a service event sponsored by UC Green. Rebuilding Together occurred this April, and organized volunteers to make essential home repairs for low-income individuals and families in Philadelphia -- work was done at no cost to homeowners, although they and their families were encouraged to work alongside volunteers to the best of their abilities. UC Green works to bring together the Penn community in efforts to revamp University City neighborhoods. The Change for Change committee researched and selected UC Green among fifteen other West Philadelphia organizations.
A college house loose change collection was held in late February to raise money for the cause. In addition, philanthropy events run by the Newman Center, Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, and the Performing Arts council contributed to our donations. Lastly, we formed a great partnership with Campus Dining. With every purchase from specially marked Aramark and Coke vending machines, Penn students made an instant donation to Change for Change. |

Change for Change Raises $25,000 for the American Red Cross September 11 Relief Efforts (2001) |
|
Change for Change Penn commenced the 2001-2002 season with a campus-wide philanthropy campaign in response to the September 11 tragedy in New York and Washington. Over 40 Penn groups came together to support the effort. From a downtown sorority event to a college house collection drive, from a fraternity coffeehouse to spirit ribbon sales, the University united to raise $25,000. Change for Change founder Dana Hork presented the donation to South Eastern Pennsylvania Regional American Red Cross CEO Frank Donaghue and former Philadelphia 76ers owner Pat Croce on October 11, the one month anniversary of the terrorist attacks. Also in attendance were University of Pennsylvania President Judith Rodin, Executive Vice President John Fry, and Provost Robert Barchi, and City Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell.
